Aric Mayer
Educational Consultant

Aric loves learning, studying and all things academic. He received his A.A. in acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and tried his hand at soap operas and commercials before landing a job as an accountant (a lucrative role). Having attended various southern California colleges part-time and taking evening courses after putting in long days at his accounting job at Sony Pictures, he finally decided to relocate and finish his B.A. at the prestigious University of California at Berkeley. Aric graduated in December 2002 with honors in English and a double-major in Rhetoric, and is currently preparing to take the GRE on his road to obtaining a Master's and/or PhD.

Aric is interested in Buddhism, appreciates eclectic music, and has completed two marathons. His passion for travel took him on a 20 month backpacking trip across China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Singapore, Java and Australia in the mid-90s. More recently, Aric has traveled to Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. He taught English in India and Sumatra, and made money picking apples and grapes in Australia.

Always eager to distance himself from accounting work, Aric worked in the Centers for Transfer, Re-entry and Student Parents at UC Berkeley. His contributions included creating and editing a newsletter, updating web content, organizing and publicizing events, advising potential students on the UC transfer process, and tutoring students on their writing and composition skills. He is thrilled to be a member of the Vanguard team!
