Denisha Dawson

Denisha was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from University of California Santa Cruz, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of California Berkeley and taught at the community college level for 10 years.

In her first year of college, Denisha was asked to tutor Calculus for a special program geared towards minority and economically disadvantaged students and became forever hooked on teaching. She entered graduate school with plans to become a university professor, but after five years of dragging herself into the laboratory day after soul-numbing day it was clear that teaching, not research, was her one and only passion. She happily taught chemistry full-time at Diablo Valley College for many years before marrying, having a kid and moving to Tucson, Arizona. Now back in the Bay Area after a lovely three-year desert vacation, she relishes the opportunity to work extensively with students one-on-one.

When not tutoring, teaching, or running after her little boy, Denisha loves to hike, read, and make playlists on her new ipod.
