Jeanie Lerner
Educational Consultant

Jeanie Lerner is delighted that her last name echoes what she loves most in life: learning. While her primary love is language, she considers that to include math; she often quotes Mrs. Boswell, her high school algebra teacher, “Math is the universal language.” What Jeanie finds most enjoyable about tutoring is helping students realize their potential. She accomplishes this as much by modeling a positive attitude as she does by teaching the subject matter. She’s comfortable working with students of all ages and abilities, and gets along equally well with parents.

Although Jeanie has had a varied career (Executive Assistant to Galen Rowell, owner-member of a collective bakery in Berkeley, Managing Editor at Dolby Laboratories, Senior Public Administrative Analyst at the Center for Weight and Health on UC Berkeley campus), the two themes running throughout her life are working with people and teaching. During her five years volunteering at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum, she was a founding member of the Ask Me team, that served as docents for all visitors, from grandparents down to toddlers. Jeanie has taught non-academic subjects as well, from Aikido (Japanese martial art in which she holds the rank of shodan, or black belt) to yoga, which she has taught since 2001. Jeanie also works as a freelance copy editor.

When she’s not working, Jeanie enjoys reading, hiking, playing with her dog Cooper, watching movies, visiting with her family, and baking.

Jeanie Lerner earned a BA in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and an MA in linguistics, from the University of California, Berkeley. She is also certificated by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with a Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential in English.
