Lauren Hughes
Educational Consultant
Lauren Hughes is a native of Dorchester, an inner-city community in Boston. She graduated from Boston Latin School, Boston's most prestigious exam-school, and then went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth with a bachelor's degree in English.
Currently, Lauren is the Assistant Director of Project D.E.E.P.
Associates, Inc., a non-profit education program for middle school students in Dorchester. Her responsibilities there include coordinating a tutoring program involving over 140 students and 90 tutors. She also teaches a weekly math enrichment program for students in grade 7 and 8. During the summer, Lauren also directs an extensive summer camp program, including directing two sessions of an educational field trip camp.
Lauren thoroughly enjoys the one-on-one connection that is developed in a tutorial relationship. In fact, Lauren's involvement with Project D.E.E.P. goes beyond just the professional capacity; she tutored as a volunteer with the program all through high school. She also tutored throughout college as a part of the outreach program of her sorority, Delta Pi Omega.
Lauren is looking to pursue her Master's Degree in Education in the near future, and hopes to develop a curriculum for high school students interested in contemporary American literature. This program would include many works of fiction that would appeal to current high school students and encourage them to read more often.
